84043 bowl | Walter Zeischegg | Helit, Germany | ca. 1960s

Since my last post was an object by Walter Zeischegg for Helit, why not another?  Click for a brief biography of Walter Zeischegg.  Here is a beautiful three-lobed shamrock, this bowl has great presence.  The bowl has three fold rotational symmetry, relying on 120° angles for its distinct look.  This period was clearly one where Zeischegg was exploring the dynamic between design, geometry, morphology, surfaces, and mathematics.  Each bowl is 28-1/2cm (11-1/4”) in diameter.  It is illustrated here in orange, yellow, and gray melamine.  A listing from a 1999 Sotheby’s auction shows that a black bowl was made.  The images in this post are from eBay.  Click to enlarge.

The bowl is marked on the underside.  Each line is separated by 120° and is located exactly between the seams that separate the three lobes:
